Siding Contractor Serving Kansas City, KS

Kansas City Exterior Professionals helps homeowners plan siding and related exterior improvements for properties across Kansas City, Kansas. The city includes established neighborhoods near the urban core, former independent communities such as Rosedale, and newer development farther west. That range makes a property-specific exterior assessment more useful than a one-size-fits-all recommendation.

As a James Hardie Elite Preferred Contractor, we install fiber cement siding and coordinate related exterior repairs when deterioration is uncovered. Request a free estimate for your Kansas City, KS home.

Permits in Kansas City, KS

The Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS administers building permits for structural, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work through its Building Inspection Division, and its published guidance doesn't list siding replacement among the commonly exempt work. In practice, that means a standard building permit is the safer assumption for a KCK siding project, not an exception.

We handle the permit application and inspection scheduling as part of every project, so this isn't something you have to navigate yourself.

Exterior Improvements Designed Around Your Kansas City, KS Home

Kansas City, Kansas has some of the oldest and most character-rich housing stock in the metro, and that history shapes what a siding project actually needs to account for. This isn't a city where one siding configuration fits every block.

Older, established neighborhoods. Strawberry Hill — long tied to the area's Croatian and Eastern European heritage — is packed with early-1900s two-story homes and cottages on steep, compact lots, many still wearing original wood siding and single-pane windows. Argentine and Rosedale hold similar-era bungalows and worker cottages. On homes like these, once old siding comes off, it's common to find deteriorated trim, aging sheathing or moisture issues that need addressing before new material goes up — which is why we evaluate the existing exterior before treating any of this as purely cosmetic.

Mixed-material and dense-lot exteriors. Many of KCK's older neighborhoods were built on tight, narrow lots with brick foundations, stone accents or masonry party walls between close-set homes. New siding on these properties has to work with what's staying in place — profile, trim and transition details matter as much as the material itself.

Newer development on the west side. Out toward Piper and the areas developed around the Legends/Village West, housing skews newer — modern layouts, more open lots, and builder-grade finishes that are often good candidates for a straightforward upgrade rather than a full evaluation of hidden damage.

Did you know? Kansas City, KS is one of the few cities in the metro where a single street can span 100+ years of construction — a 1910s Strawberry Hill cottage and a 2010s Piper two-story are both "local," but they need very different siding approaches.

Local Conditions That Affect Kansas City, KS Exteriors

Wyandotte County sits in the same storm-exposed metro as the rest of Kansas City, but a couple of its numbers are genuinely different from what you'd assume for "Kansas" generally — worth knowing before defaulting to statewide stats.

FactorKansas City, KS RealityWhy It Matters for Siding
Thunderstorms40–60 thunderstorm days/year in the metro (NWS Pleasant Hill/EAX, which covers Wyandotte County)Frequent wind and hail exposure is a baseline condition, not an occasional risk
TornadoesKansas averages roughly 81 tornadoes/year statewide — but Wyandotte County itself recorded the fewest confirmed tornadoes of any Kansas county between 1950–2023 (11 total), reflecting its small, dense, urban footprintDirect tornado risk is comparatively low for KCK specifically, but the same storm systems still bring damaging straight-line wind and hail
Recent severe weatherAn August 2026 thunderstorm packing 70-mph winds and golf-ball-sized hail snapped power poles, tore roofs off homes, and left at least 60 KCK homes needing major repairWind-driven hail damage isn't hypothetical here — it's a documented, recent local event
Freeze-thaw swingsFirst freeze typically late October, last frost early spring; the metro averages around 26 days/year where temps never climb above freezing at allRepeated cycling above and below 32°F works moisture into small gaps and widens them over time — more damaging long-term than the cold itself
Annual precipitationRoughly 37in rain, 18in snow per year (metro average)Sustained moisture exposure makes flashing, drainage and installation detail matter more
Tree canopyUneven across the city — Strawberry Hill, Argentine and Rosedale have mature tree cover on tight lots; Piper and the west side are more openShaded, tightly-set homes dry slower after rain and collect more debris; open newer lots wear more from direct UV and thermal cycling

James Hardie fiber cement siding is engineered for exactly this kind of climate swing: it won't warp, crack or rot the way wood does, and it holds up to hail and wind far better than vinyl. It's also fire-resistant and pest-resistant — relevant on KCK's older, tightly-built blocks. James Hardie's HZ5® products specifically are engineered for climate zones with freezing temperatures, moisture, snow, ice and repeated seasonal swings, which fits this metro regardless of which side of the state line a home sits on.

A full breakdown of Hardie's durability, styles and finishes lives on our James Hardie siding guide — this page focuses on what it's like to work with us here in KCK.

Neighborhoods We Serve in Kansas City, KS

We've installed James Hardie siding across Wyandotte County, including:

  • Strawberry Hill — historic, tightly-packed, mostly early-1900s two-stories and cottages on steep lots
  • Armourdale — older industrial-adjacent residential area with a mix of housing ages
  • Argentine — bungalows and worker cottages, similar era to Strawberry Hill
  • Rosedale — older housing stock, tree-lined streets
  • Downtown / Central KCK — historic core, mixed building ages
  • Piper — newer subdivision construction on the west side
  • Village West — newer development near the Legends entertainment district

Exterior Systems Work Together

Siding is one layer of your home’s exterior wall. Beneath it, a water-resistant barrier, flashing and trim work together to guide moisture away from your home. Local building requirements, administered by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS, are built around this same principle, and with summer thunderstorms and winter freeze-thaw cycles, those hidden layers earn their keep.

A siding replacement is the perfect opportunity to refresh them. On homes in neighborhoods like Strawberry Hill, Argentine, and Rosedale, we can review the sheathing, check the flashing around windows and doors, and complete any updates needed so your new siding has a solid foundation for years to come.

We approach every siding replacement as a complete exterior project, with trim, flashing, moisture management, and new James Hardie fiber cement siding planned together for a finish that looks great and performs beautifully.

We have lived in our home since 1991. In need of new windows and siding we consulted Ryan. He came and showed us options for windows and siding. He answered every question, explained the process of installation and a time line. The install went smoothly, the crew were some of the hardest working men I've witnessed and they left the site cleaned up daily. Ryan stopped by to check on the progress. Our home is completely transformed and we've had people stop by to comment on the new siding and windows. I highly recommend KCExterior Professionals.

KC Exterior Profressionals did an amazing job on our home! We had new Hardie siding installed on the entire house along with new gutters, and we couldn't be happier with the end result. Ryan was great to work with—upfront and honest about our options, and he provided a detailed quote so there were no surprises about the scope of work. He was also prompt in responding to any questions or concerns we had throughout the process. Would definitely recommend!

KC Exteriors did an outstanding job re-siding our home with new Hardie board siding. From start to finish, Ryan made the entire process simple and stress-free. He explained everything clearly, kept us updated, and was always easy to reach if we had questions. His crew was fantastic — efficient, professional, and very clean. They left the job site tidy every day, which we really appreciated. We live in a city that’s notoriously difficult to work with when it comes to home projects, but Ryan’s experience and knowledge of the area meant we had zero issues. The quality of the finished siding exceeded our expectations, and the house looks amazing. I highly recommend KC Exteriors and Ryan’s team to anyone looking for top-notch siding work.

Ryan was professional, straight forward, and priced fairly. We didn't pick the cheapest quote, we made our decision based on who we thought would fit our project the best. The crew showed up everyday , worked hard, and cleaned up before leaving. The final product was great. We couldn't be more pleased with the outcome or Ryan and company.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for Ryan for several months because he truly deserves it. I went through a long exterior remodeling process, and the window portion was exhausting—I felt like I couldn’t find anyone honest or straightforward about the differences, and I even caught several salespeople being less than truthful (I would not recommend Apex; their installers were awful). That being said, choosing Ryan for the exterior Hardie siding was the easiest decision I made. He was honest, never cut corners, and made sure everything was done correctly to comply with warranty standards. Since my installation, I’ve already referred him to two people. His team of installers was extremely professional, efficient, and skilled. I would 100% recommend this company to anyone. Excellent work by Ryan and his team.

We used KCEP to install Hardie board siding on our home and were very pleased with their work. They showed up on time every day, did good work and cleaned up at the end of each day. Ryan was available throughout the process and very responsive to any questions we had. In addition to the siding they arranged for new gutters and painting of the remaining trim on the house. The gutter crew and painter did their work right on time. I highly recommend this company. We are very pleased with the way our house looks.

Why Homeowners Choose Kansas City Exterior Professionals

An exterior renovation is a significant investment, and the process should leave you feeling informed — not pressured. We help homeowners:

  • Evaluate the visible exterior and areas vulnerable to hidden deterioration
  • Compare appropriate siding and design options
  • Coordinate colors, profiles, trim and architectural details
  • Understand what is included in the proposed scope
  • Prepare for the installation process, including permitting
  • Address discovered deterioration before it is concealed
  • Create an exterior that feels cohesive rather than pieced together

Our goal isn't to sell every available material or turn your home into a copy of someone else's. It's to help you make a confident decision that fits your property.

Frequently Asked Questions About Siding in Kansas City, KS

Does KC Exterior Pros serve all of Kansas City, KS?

Yes. Kansas City Exterior Professionals serves homeowners throughout Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas — from Strawberry Hill to Piper — as part of our greater Kansas City service area. Project availability may depend on the property and requested scope.

Do I need a permit to replace my siding in Kansas City, KS?

Likely, yes. Unlike Kansas City, Missouri, KCK's permit-exempt work guidance doesn't name exterior wall covering replacement, so a standard building permit through the Unified Government's Building Inspection Division is the safer assumption. We handle the application and inspections as part of the project.

How long does James Hardie siding last?

James Hardie fiber cement siding is designed to provide decades of service, with its actual lifespan depending on proper installation, maintenance and weather exposure. It’s backed by a 30-year, non-prorated limited substrate warranty. Our lifetime workmanship warranty provides separate coverage for the installation, giving Kansas City, KS homeowners added peace of mind, subject to the terms of both warranties.

Can James Hardie siding withstand Kansas City, KS's climate?

Yes. James Hardie's HZ5® products are built for climate zones with freezing temperatures, moisture, snow and ice — and the metro's storm record, including a documented 70-mph, golf-ball-hail event in August 2026, makes impact resistance a real factor here, not a marketing point.

My home is on an older, tightly-set KCK lot — will a siding project account for that?

Yes. Neighborhoods like Strawberry Hill and Armourdale often have narrow lots, shared walls or close setbacks, which we factor into scheduling, material staging and installation planning — it's a different job than a wide-lot suburban install.

Kansas City Exterior Professionals also serves homeowners in Kansas City, MO, Overland Park, Olathe, Lenexa, Shawnee, Leawood, Mission, Prairie Village, Roeland Park, Fairway, and communities throughout the greater Kansas City area.
